Happy Birthday dad...

We had a wonderful time at Kendall and Elaine's house...Elaine cooked two roasts with all the trimings....carrots, potatoes, onions, gravy....Nephi brought punch and a jello salad, Milton brought green beans, Sharlene made the rolls, Muriel brought green salad and a game with wonderful prizes, Stanley brought corn, Linda made the yummy desserts, Vayla brought mashed potatoes. It was reminiscent of mothers Sunday dinner when we were all at home.
We all had a chance to share our memories with dad. Sharlene spoke about dancing with dad at the "Daddy Daughter Dates"...and how tall he was. She also spoke about how dad let her and Vonetta comb his hair and put rubber bands and barrettes in it. Stanley spoke about going out of town with dad on working trips and how he taught him how to work. He also got to steer the car and push on the peddles. Lamarr spoke about the life lessons he learned from dad. Milton spoke about learning how to change parts in the car when they no longer worked and how many men he knows now don't have the slightest idea how to do anything on their cars. Elaine spoke about combing his hair and taking off his boots when he got home. She also spoke about going down to the end of the street to meet him as he got home from work and how he would stop and the girls would climb up on the step side and they would ride there on the way home. Muriel said the same thing about going down to the end of the street and riding home on the side of the truck. She also told us about how dad wrote to mother almost everyday when mother was in Iowa when Tara was born and how mom would read the letters out loud and then let Muriel read them. He always addressed them to my Dear Elsie, or my dearest Elsie. This let Muriel know how much he loved our mother and how much they loved each other. Nephi talked about how he learned to pull wire and help dad in his electric work. Nephi told about an experience changing a ballast on a 8 foot light at Wright's market. He did but it quit working a half a hour latter and he had to go back and figure out what went wrong. And he did. Vayla told us how she was the last one at home and how tender dad was with her and her needs. And she agreeded with the other girls about riding home on the side of the truck and doing dads hair. She also spoke about mother fixing breakfast for dad each day....poached eggs, cream of wheat and toast. Mother also made his lunch everyday. Linda spoke about the same things and how much the girls looked forward to going down the end of the street and swinging on the paint sign that was there while they were waiting for dad. We played the "what do you know about dad" game and Vayla got the most answers right. Way to go Vayla. Muriel did a wonderful job, her prizes were great. I don't think that Nephi knew very much, but Carol Lee got a prize. Nephi wanted to do couple answers.....no......each on our own. Thank you mother and dad for being such great examples to all of us....and loving us and taking care of us the way you have. We have learned from the best...we LOVE you very much. It was great that Lamarr and Launa could come from Tucson to be with us. We enjoyed their company. Elaine had her house decorated so cute...she had crape paper and balloons and a beautiful rose bouquet on her serving table. She had a very cute heart shapped favor box with nuts and candies in it for each one of us to take home for a keep sake. Thank you Elaine and Kendall we love you.
